How do I set up and use trackers?

Pair a tracker, assign activities, and track time by flipping the device

Trackers are physical Bluetooth devices with eight sides. You can assign a different activity to each side, then flip the tracker to switch between activities and automatically start tracking time. You manage trackers in the desktop app.

Download the desktop app

Trackers are only available in the desktop app. If you navigate to Trackers in the web app without the desktop app installed, you see a Desktop app required screen.

Follow these steps

  1. Click Download app.
  2. Install the desktop app on your computer.
  3. Open the desktop app.
  4. Log in with your TimeTac account.

Pair a tracker

Before you can use a tracker, you need to pair it with the TimeTac desktop app via Bluetooth.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the TimeTac desktop app.
  2. Navigate to Trackers in the account menu.
  3. Click Pair tracker.
  4. Make sure the tracker is switched on and the indicator is blinking blue.
  5. Select your tracker from the list. The indicator turns green.
  6. Click Pair.

Tip: Keep the tracker close to your computer during the pairing process for a stable Bluetooth connection.

Assign activities to tracker sides

Each tracker has eight sides. You can assign a different activity to each side so that flipping the tracker switches between them.

Follow these steps

  1. Navigate to Trackers in the desktop app.
  2. Click the tracker you want to edit, or click Edit in the context menu.
  3. For each side, select an activity.
  4. Click Save.

Edit a tracker name

Give your tracker a custom name to easily identify it.

Follow these steps

  1. Navigate to Trackers in the desktop app.
  2. Click the tracker you want to edit, or click Edit in the context menu.
  3. Enter a new name in the Name field.
  4. Click Save.

Connect and disconnect a tracker

You can temporarily disconnect a tracker without unpairing it. This stops time tracking without removing the device from your account.

  • Connect: Navigate to Trackers, select the tracker, and click Connect.
  • Disconnect: Select the tracker and click Disconnect.

Unpair and reset a tracker

Unpairing and resetting a tracker permanently removes it from your account. You can pair it again later if needed.

Follow these steps

  1. Navigate to Trackers in the desktop app.
  2. Click the tracker you want to edit, or click Edit in the context menu.
  3. Go to the Actions section and click Unpair and reset.

Warning: Unpairing and resetting a tracker does not delete any time entries that were already recorded with it.
